Gear
I’d like to share with you the gear that I use and recommend. At this time I have no sponsorships so all my thoughts are strictly my own. While I am not sponsored the Amazon links are referrals. If you make a purchase using those links I will get a kick a back - so thank you in advance!
My Primary Camera
My primary camera is the Canon EOS RP. The RP is Canon’s entry-level mirrorless camera. I’ve been using this camera for several months. Prior to this, I was using a Canon EOS T3i. As a long-time Canon user, this camera was very easy to pick up, learn, and use.
The RP I purchased comes with the 24-105mm f4-7.1 IS STM Lens. It boasts a number of great features, including:
26.6 megapixel Full Frame Sensor
4K 30fps/1080P 60fps
ISO 100-40000
WiFi and Bluetooth Connectivity
Now, I actually use the WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity features a lot! I can quickly transfer shots I’ve taken from the camera to my phone while in the field, do a quick edit and post to social media, share with family or friends, or send a quick edit directly to a client.
I have 0 complaints about this camera and have already shot thousands of pictures with it. If you’re looking to upgrade or get into photography I would give this camera strong consideration.
Lenses
While I wish I could afford the L series glass the best lenses out there are the ones you have! That being said here’s what I carry in my bag.
RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM Lens
This particular lens came with my RP body. I find it to be very versatile and so far has served me very well! I’ve shot a ton of landscapes, a little astrophotography, and even my son’s senior portraits with this lens.

RF 16mm f/2.8 STM Lens
This 16mm prime lens I really enjoy using for astrophotography and landscape shots. I get a much wider view than I do at the 24mm focal length. This also allows me to work in tighter situations, like the Schoolhouse Renovation project I’m working on.

RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM Lens
This is the longest focal length lens I have in the bag and to be honest, I just got it! As I write this it is the same day I purchased this lens. I am very excited about the longer focal length as I want to try to do some wildlife photography and really be able to focus on certain sections of landscapes.

Camera Accessories
In my opinion, these are some must-have accessories for the Canon RP! These items are specific to the RP.
Canon EG-E1 Grip Extension
Now, I’ve got big hands, huge hands in fact. I once purchased a bowling ball and the guy at the bowling alley that fit me for my ball said my grip was the largest span he had ever seen and he had been fitting bowling balls for nearly 20 years. That’s how big my hands are. So, to that end, my first accessory recommendation is the Canon EG-E1 grip extension for the EOS RP. This is not a battery grip, it simply extends the body of the camera just enough.
Without the grip, my pinky finger hangs off of the body and I’ve got really no wear to put. With the grip, my whole hand can grip the camera. I feel like I have more control and stability when doing handheld shooting.
The grip easily installs to the bottom of the camera using the tripod mount, and you still have access to the battery and SD card slots, as well as a tripod/accessory mount. And, the EG-E1 is available in black, blue, and red. I have the red one.

Canon LP-E17 Spare Battery Pack
I don’t care what you shoot, you need at least one spare battery if you want to keep shooting. Now, according to the RP manual, you can expect to get 250-300 shots off a single charge. So far, I’ve personally seen more than that. I like to do long exposure shots too, so running water and night stary sky shots too. So, for those shooting situations power is a must! Later on this page, I’ll show what I use to keep my gear charged while on the road.
